A mountain popping through the clouds over Indonesia

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Ps 23:1
The months running upto March were incredible and so fulfilling. After getting back from an Iris Global leaders retreat in Indonesia there seemed to be an explosion of fruitfulness. God started breaking out in healings and signs and wonders at the Dream Centre with multiple kids getting healed and encountering and God and being forever marked by his presence. Other kids even having gold dust on their skin after receiving prayer. (some of you have received some testimonies by email – to sign up for our emailprayer updates click here)

We saw some of our local Khmer neighbours getting radically touched by Jesus and transformed and they then went on the spread the flame and saw other people saved and delivered.

We also had some great visitors including an incredible team sent out to do heart ministry to our whole team and a visit from a wonderful couple from our home church in the UK. It was a blessed time but it was a full time.

In the period leading upto mid march I (Steve) was also the closest to burnout I had ever been. Not just because of tiredness but also because heart issues that I had started to notice and I knew needed dealing with. Thankfully He gave us rest at just the right time.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul .
Ps 23:2-3

In the middle of March we were able to go back to the UK for a break. After a couple of weeks of rest we were blessed to be able to receive some personal one on one ministry up in Scotland with a ministry called “Restoring the Foundations” (RTF) .

With the constant pressures of serving on the front line in a dark spiritual environment we both saw areas where we needed greater freedom and healing in our hearts.

The week of RTF ministry impacted us both significantly. Jesus used it to bring great healing and freedom in so many areas of our lives. During one of the sessions I received a life changing revelation of the Father heart of God which led to much breakthrough in that area of my relationship with Him. (For more information about the ministry and how it works this is the website www.restoringthefoundations.org).

God was so faithful to provide what we needed just when we needed it, including a miraculous provision of funds.

The rest of our time in the UK was an incredible gift and blessing. We were able to connect with and catch up with some of our wonderful friends and family there and Grace was blessed to spend some time with her cousins and grandparents! She also learned to walk during this time (now she is running around everywhere)!

Over the last few times since being back in the UK we have begun a relationship with a wonderful church in our home town called City Church NE Lincs. Some of our family have been attending for a while and the church has embraced us and have been such a blessing and encouragement to us; often going out of their way to bless us. One Sunday we had the opportunity to share about Cambodia and some of the exciting things God is doing.

At the end of April it was time to return to this beautiful nation and we travelled back feeling refreshed, encouraged and ready for the season ahead

Since coming back to Cambodia we have been in this theme of transition, freshness and newness. God is doing big things and it involves big changes.

In Sihanoukville we are currently looking for some additional paid Khmer team members and are transitioning from the old Dream Centre site to a brand new piece of land which is higher up the hill and feels like a bit of an upgrade! It is an empty piece of land so we get a blank canvass to build and grow on. We are also in the season of having some of our amazing team members back in the States for a break and we have a new family of five wonderful missionaries who have come to join our team down here! They have been in Cambodia 6 years and they are a great addition to our team!
He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Ps 23:3
Image description
In the midst of all this transition some big questions have come up for us as a family to pray about and consider. Our International Directors have asked us to consider something that we are currently in the process of praying and seeking the Lord on. It is a decision which is quite big for us as a family and for both teams in Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh and so is not to be taken likely.

Whatever we decide we really pray it will be God’s best. We came out here for Jesus for His Glory, for His name and for His will. We didn’t come out here to build a big successful ministry for ourselves or a name for ourselves we came out to Cambodia for Him alone.

We didn’t come out for comfort, consistency, for ease or to have a nice time, we came to Cambodia for Him so above all we are praying that whatever the cost, the potential discomfort, or any other challenges that this decision could bring we pray that we will have the faith and the ability to say Yes to Him, for Him and not for us.
Please pray for us as we continue to seek Him on this one.

…to be continued…

Much Love,

Steve, Mollie and baby Gracie.

Please pray:
  • That God would continue his work of freshness including upgrade in depth of relationships in our team and in our relationship with Him.
  • That we would transtition to the new dream Centre well and take full advantage of this opportunity of a blank canvass to really follow His heart and guidance and that all the funds needed will be provided.
  • That we would find the perfect Khmer Sihanoukville team members to eventually raise up as future local leaders to help bless this nation.
  • That our newest international and national team members would settle in well and really feel a part of a family.
  • Our team members on sabbatical in the States would have an incredibly God filled time full of healing and refreshment.
  • That as we seek His heart on some big decisions we would choose Him and say yes to Him no matter what.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you, He will never leave you or forsake you”  Deut 31:6

These last few weeks and months have been extremely precious, difficult, amazing, inspiring but also one of the hardest seasons of my life. We have had incredible highs where we have been able to rent out a room in a brothel and share the gospel and see the presence of God break-out during worship with the women, we’ve had so much fun having lots of Christmas parties and being able to bless many of the slum families who are dear to our hearts with ways to earn a living, we have watched people weep as God touches their hearts and brings new hope and life, we have seen people healed of sickness and people grow in their faith. We have also had breakthrough in many areas in our team, deeper relationships, the café taking shape and opening this week, more team members who have brought such encouragement and love, the dream centre is busier than ever and the kids are hungry for God, the slums are changing as the presence of God is brought there by the kids! So many things to be thankful for! However I felt to write about the challenges; to be open and honest and share what God is teaching me through it all.
“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him”  James 1:12
Image description
Being a new mum in a different nation is hard! The cost of being away from family is so much more tangible, plus everything is harder; no pavements to walk with a pram, its continuously hot, no parks, no good hospitals, no mums groups, no places to go and play with other children, no one else around me that understands the daily challenges and struggles. It has been really hard! Constantly questioning is it OK that Grace is surrounded by children who are from the slums and the streets, children covered in lice and dirt and who don’t know how to behave? Questioning whether she feels secure in a strange place where she is given so much attention? As she is so different from everyone else, when she gets sick where can I go to take her? Whether she is really missing out as the people who love her the most are the other side of the world? Is the cost of the daily struggle worth it? Many of the things God has put on my heart and showed me are not a reality right now; sometimes it feels the wait for his promises is so long. It’s during these times of reflection Satan loves to come and bring discouragement; he lies and questions absolutely everything about our identity and our value. Did God really call us or are we deluded? Are we even worthy to be used by Him?  Are we wasting our lives? The many times I have wanted to give up and go home and have a “normal” life, with a nice house and a good job and a “ safe secure “ future for Grace. This would be so easy! The world teaches us that our value lies in what we achieve or what we have. God teaches us our value is in Him and that nothing pleases Him more than our faith and trust in Him. When things are hard is when we really get tested; can we trust God even when everything in us wants to give up and run away?
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it. Matthew 7:13-14
Image description
What I initially thought was “the worst/hardest season” I am realising is the most important! I have been learning that God allows us to face trials to see whether he can trust us with what he wants to give us. Its only when we see how broken and weak we are we are humble enough for God to raise us up.

Graham Cooke puts it this way ; there are 4 stages which we all go through when God wants to raise us up into the promises He has for us– Decree (the prophetic word or promise God gives us) followed by a period of Despair or trials which leads us to Development of our character followed by the Display of his promises made manifest in our lives. Lets look at Joseph ; he had the amazing promises from God of being a leader and having such authority and power soon after which he is sold into slavery by the people who should have protected him and loved him the most. The level of pain and despair must have been overwhelming and such a shock as it was the opposite of his promise! Years and years later though we see what an amazing man he is as he forgives his brothers. He saw how God allowed this to happen to make him into man God wanted him to be. However he had a choice; in the very hardest seasons when he was put in jail and probably felt like there was no hope he could have become bitter, hopeless, given up on God, questioned the prophetic promises OR trusted God, that He is in control, that He is sovereign that He is faithful and He is good! God wastes nothing and I came to the realisation that God would not ask me to endure a difficult situation for no reason – He is a good father! So I have come to the place where I trust Him! It may not make sense to me, but my mind is so small compared to God! I want to be someone who stands firm even when my flesh is weak.
Image description
So that’s where I am; daily choosing to surrender control, to choose to trust, to choose to lay my anxiety’s and fears down and let His peace and love fill me. Whatever that looks like I am His and He is mine and really what else matters. I wouldn’t trade that for anything else. Even when I feel like my heart is breaking as I miss my family and friend’s and their support so much, even when I feel that I don’t have the answers, that I feel lonely or confused I am never alone! He is with me and He will protect Grace and make sure we have all we need. He will meet all our needs and give us a peace beyond understanding.

So whatever this next year looks like, whether God keeps us here or whether He asks us to follow him elsewhere I do know that we are in good hands and we are being transformed; it will be hard, it will be painful but it is worth it all. I want God to know He can trust me and to know I will trust Him whatever He asks of me.

So I rejoice in my brokenness as I know God will use it for greatness and that when He does I will know it’s all because of Him. I have learnt we shouldn’t feel ashamed for feeling broken but actually recognise it’s all part of the process of dying to self and recognising we are nothing without God.

Precious time in Australia with family

Thank you so much for continuing to pray for us it makes such a huge difference, below are some praise points and some prayer requests;

-Praise points:
  • Over Christmas two leaders of families we have been working with in the railway community were baptised it was a joy filled occasion and a big turning point for both. They are growing in their faith and beginning to greatly influence their families.
  • Over the last few weeks we have seen a number of people miraculously healed after prayer and have averaged a healing every couple of days, including baby Grace when she was in pain and very unwell. God is faithful to fight for us and is evidently alongside us. He is also stirring the hearts of our team to see His Kingdom come more through the miraculous.
  • Our wonderful friends and fellow team members Jo and Chad are about to open Café Awaken which is a huge fulfilment of promise for them. They aim to use the profits to fund missions and Iris Cambodia and also use the café as a place to employ girls who have been rescued from the bars (if you have a heart to find out more or give follow this link (http://www.sauders4him.com/cafe-awaken/)
  • Our Dream Centre had an amazing and successful first ever Christmas party with nearly 200 children attending and hearing about Jesus. Many of the children were greatly impacted and many more children have started coming to the dream centre.
  • We were so blessed to be able to have a restful 2 weeks in Sydney over Christmas and New Year thanks to some generous people who helped put towards our flights and being able to stay at my brother’s house while there. It was such a precious God given time to be able to have Christmas with family and get some rest.
  • God blessed us with some really encouraging and loving friends to come and live in the house below us and minister to us right when we needed them the most. They left today after three months serving with our team and making a huge impact and supporting us so much. God is so amazing!

Please pray for:
  • It’s an exciting new season with lots of things opening up and lots of areas we are beginning to move into. Please pray that we would have incredible wisdom and discernment in leadership and continually follow Jesus’ heartbeat.
  • Jo and Chad as they open the café and things go from busy to busier that God would bless them, protect their marriage and family and use them to bear great fruit for the Kingdom as they continue to abide in the vine.
  • Wisdom on how to advance in the slums and discernment on how to continually love our Cambodian families well whilst constantly pointing them to Christ.
  • That as a family we would continue to stay strong and fight the daily fight of faith.
  • Protection over our hearts and our marriage and clarity and wisdom on decisions for our family’s future.
  • Jason who is Director of Iris Cambodia has had a recent bout of unexplained illness and because of the severity of it and the inability of doctors here to explain what it is he has had to fly back to the UK for further tests and an extended period of rest. Please pray for him and his family, for full health and for all the fullness of what God has for them in Cambodia to come to pass.

Thank you so much! Love you all!

A recent party at the Dream Centre

It has been wonderful to be back in this beautiful country and the time has flown by. We arrived mid-August and when we first got here I (Steve) still had no voice, a bad shoulder and was still not 100%, all from the operation. Along with that it was a big transition coming out here as new parents compared to being here as a married couple but God has been so faithful. Since then my voice has completely healed, my shoulder is better and I am now feeling back to full health. Grace has adapted well and is going from strength to strength. God has been so good to us.
Image description
It’s was amazing (after 7 months away) to see what has progressed in our absence and lots of exciting things have been happening. The Dream Centre is now operational with hundreds of children having been, heard about and experienced Christ’s love. Many of the regular kids have been completely transformed even in such a short time.

Since we have been back we have seen first-hand some of the amazing things Father God has been doing in the children’s lives there. Many of the children have been physically healed after prayer. We have heard testimonies of children having dreams and encounters with Jesus and we have seen breakthrough in so many of the children’s lives including positive changes to their behaviour. It has been such a joy and a privilege to be back and be a part of all that God is doing at the Dream Centre with these precious children. From this little centre will flow the other things God has planned down here and there are lots of exciting things ahead!

Some of our team members are close to opening a Coffee Shop as a business to help towards the funding of Iris Sihanoukville and to eventually employ people who have chosen to leave the sex industry. We are all excited about what this will bring to the city; both its great coffee but also the impact it will have on many lives.
Image description
Things are progressing well in the little railway community where we lived last year. It has been really encouraging to see the increased faith of some of the families, it has blessed us so much to listen to some of the testimonies of God’s provision and faithfulness through various trials.

One family there in particular has really encouraged us with how they have been transformed. They are the poorest family (materially) in the community and are often mocked and scoffed at by their neighbours because they are so poor, the neighbour kids even hit their kids and mock them because their clothes are like rags. As I sat there with the mamma of this family who has 8 children who are so skinny and have had their heads shaven because of constant lice I was amazed to see her full of hope, joy and faith.
Image description
)When we first met this family we were really concerned for them, she used to drink a lot because her situation seemed hopeless. Her husband left her and she was forced to fend for herself. Her life was falling apart and her children were malnourished and constantly bullied. Before we left we got to pray for her a few times and managed to help getting some regular milk supplied for her malnourished baby boy (a wonderful church in Australia offered to fund the baby’s milk).

This time around after coming back she seemed like a different person, she was sharing testimonies of God’s provision and faithfulness time and time again (in a way it was good we were away because God has shown himself strong). She couldn’t stop talking about God. She mentioned how every day she prays to Jesus and He gives her strength and hope. Sometimes when it is hot in their house (they have no fans) she prays to God and He sends a nice breeze to cool them down. She goes to church every week taking her littlest children and they have such smiles on their face as they sing songs. You don’t see the rags and holes in their clothes or their tiny skinny frame as they dance; you notice the joy and the freedom they now have; they know they are valued and loved and that the God of the universe is looking after them. The contrast is incredible to see, the biggest thing I have noticed in them is the hope they now have where before there was none. As I see how big God’s heart is for these precious people who everyone else seems to reject it fills me with such awe of God’s goodness.

We are blessed to have a wonderful family from England come and join us for three months here. They were our close friends and neighbours in Mozambique and have been a huge encouragement both in the past and now having them here. It seems like God has sent them at just the right time as an extra support and blessing. God is so faithful and good.
The time back here has not been without it’s challenges. For the first 6 weeks I was constantly unwell from different things and it felt like a constant attempt to discourage us. Then a few weeks ago we had something very sad happen in our family that has really affected us all and on top of that for the last few weeks the spiritual oppression even in our home has been intense. There have been times when we have felt physically oppressed and incredibly demoralised/depressed. We are learning more and more that it is a part of the fight of being over here and often after a good session in worship and spending time in the presence of God it breaks off. The constant battle can be very wearying if we don’t rest properly and continue to draw from His strength and grace for us.
Image description
I remembered recently some of the prophetic words our team received right at the beginning of our time here and one of them really stood out to me. It was in reference to Joshua and Caleb when they were sent out to assess the land before them (Numbers 13). The prophetic word we received was an encouragement to “continue to focus on the size of the fruit not the size of the giants in the land”. Caleb and Joshua did this and were the only ones out of that whole generation who were able to receive their inheritance and enter the Promised Land. It’s our heart to do the same. This place is a land were God is baring wonderful fruit not just in the people here but also in our own hearts. It’s our privilege to get to be a part of what He is doing and to be here at such a time as this.

Thank you for continuing to labour and fight along-side us with your ongoing prayers and support, we really do feel the difference.

Much love,
Steve and Mollie

Everywhere we go Grace draws a crowd and softens peoples hearts

Please Pray for:
  • Strength. The Spiritual oppression can be quite intense at times so please pray for continued strength and endurance to stand. That we would continue to look to right sources for strength and continue to draw our strength and rest from Him.

  • That we would continue to focus on the size of the fruit and continue to have God’s perspective even in the midst of the uncertainty of the battle.

  • For the railway village community families. We are starting to help some of them start small businesses. Please pray that with God's help they will be able to break through the shackles of poverty and able to dream, that they will continue to trust God and see their families prosper.

  • Wisdom as parents It has been a huge transition learning how to be parents for the first time in a foreign nation whilst leading a team and ministering to those in need and we are still learning the balance of it all. Please pray for wisdom in this.

  • Protection over our marriage.

  • Please pray for the coffee shop soon opening that everything will come together, God would send the perfect staff and it will be a place of favour, breakthrough, blessing and spiritual awakening.

  • Please pray for the health of some of the members on our team. Our Director Jason has been unwell for weeks with a mystery condition and Mollie has recently become unwell and has had stomach issues for a few days now. At the moment she is not showing any signs of improvement. Please pray for healing and rest over her body.

The bible says to rejoice always in every circumstance.

Sometimes it is easy to rejoice. We met our daughter for the first time on the 1st of March and ever since then every time I see her my heart fills with Joy.

The few months after her birth were one of the most beautiful and rich times I have experienced so far. Learning how to be parents for the first time has been so satisfying, so rewarding and incredibly fun. Our hearts are full up and we are getting so much revelation more than ever before on Father God’s loving heart towards us.
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7 ESV

When we found out after numerous medical investigations, ultrasound scans, MRI scans that I had an issue with some of the blood vessels in my brain it really made us both think about things and put a lot of things into perspective.

At first the neuroradiologist initially thought that the AV fistula I had in my brain was a low grade one, but the MRI scans he had to work with were not very clear. Low grade means there is only a very small chance of immediate complications with the vessels such as a stroke or a brain haemorrhage. We were even considering going back to Cambodia for a while and then returning 6 months to a year down the line to receive the treatment I needed. As we were praying about what to do and the timing of the potential operation one day I started getting bad headaches and was rushed to A&E.
Image description
Thankfully we had the letter in hand which had already described what the problem was and after a CT scan and a few hours wait I was blue lighted across the Humber Bridge to Hull Royal Infirmary where my surgeon was based and where they had diagnosed the problem. Because of the frequent painful headaches they decided to operate and I was given priority. All around the world people were praying for me and I could feel such a peace and joy which didn’t make sense in the natural.

The operation was 4.5hours long and went well. They got to the blood vessels in my brain through an artery in my groin and using constant X-rays they could see what they were doing and managed to block up 7 stray arteries that were causing problems. It turns out the fistula was much worse than the consultant thought and I was at a much higher risk of having a brain haemorrhage than initially thought.

I woke up after the operation telling jokes with a funny sounding voice because having a tube down my throat for over 4 hours had damaged one of my vocal chords.

Praise God it all went well and there were no complications or problems during the surgery. The days after the surgery were much more difficult and challenging. Because of the sudden redirecting of blood flow in my head and massive increase in pressure I felt at times unwell, physically tired and emotionally down.
Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you. Philippians 3:1 ESV
The bible says it is SAFE to remain in a place of rejoicing. It is a safeguard. I can see why now, there were times when I was in the hospital ward in recovery, I was so tired and there was so much pressure in my head that the temptation was to feel really down and start to feel sorry for myself. Throughout my time in hospital I kept coming across scriptures telling me to rejoice and I had been for a few weeks prior. I know God was trying to tell me something.

Sometimes the circumstances can be so challenging that it seems like the only response to a situation is to despair and start allowing yourself to feel depressed. I had just been through major surgery, I had huge pressure on my brain, was feeling constantly oppressed and tired and I started to feel these emotions to.

I knew I needed to do something, I needed to cling onto Jesus in some way and in some way get my strength from Him I was too tired to read and I had too much of a headache to listen to worship music so I started to pray. Then I started to remember some scriptures and Holy Spirit brought this scripture to mind:
Count it ALL joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,  for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2-4 ESV (Emphasis Added)
Before this point I felt I had no reason to rejoice. In my mind my circumstances were not giving me much reason to rejoice and I definitely didn’t feel like it but after remembering this scripture I realised I could rejoice even in this situation because of what it was doing in me. I felt like God was giving me a challenge. “Are you willing to rejoice in me even in such challenging circumstances?”

So I started in a very lame way thanking God for things, and really not feeling it but doing it in faith, then I started praising God, again not feeling it but in faith because I know how good He really is, because He is wonderful and magnificent all the time regardless of the situation. Then something wonderful started happening, I started feeling it. In the hospital ward I started to feel His fiery presence in a stronger way than I had felt Him in months. A supernatural joy welled up from within me and all the feelings of despair, oppression and depression had left. I also started feeling a lot better physically.
Fire always falls on sacrifice. – Bill Johnson
Image description
I was discharged from hospital after a week and the recovery was at first slow and challenging, the headaches stopped after the first few days and I was able to be up and about more. After about 5 weeks the feeling of tiredness left and now I can say I am feeling back to my old self (with the addition of some expensive glue and coils in my head).

The only difference is my voice it is still damaged from the operation, I think it slowly repairing but it still a long way off being back to normal.

There have been many other challenges in this season at home but God has constantly been with us, so close and so faithful and constantly teaching us things.
Image description
My Nanna (Grandma) recently went to be with Jesus and it has been such a blessing to be around family at this time especially my Dad and Aunties and Uncles who have felt it the most. There have been a few other challenges also but God has been so faithfully in the midst of it all, turning situations around for good and bringing healing and restoration where it has been needed.

Now we look ahead, we plan to set off for Cambodia on the 12th August. I have one final MRI scan on the 6th of August which will hopefully give me the all clear and show that the problem blood vessels are still closed and will remain so and that everything else in my brain is how it should be (if not then we will have to change our flights and stay for longer, we are praying this is not the case!)
Image description
As we look ahead we are so thankful for all of God’s faithfulness with the things He has been doing in us and through us in these last few months. Jesus is always there even when we don’t feel it and He knows how to keep us safe and strong in His joy.

We are so grateful for all the wonderful people scattered around the world who have been praying for us, every prayer has made such a tangible difference to us. Thank you so much, we appreciate and love you all.

Much love,

Steve, Mollie and baby Grace x
Prayer Requests:
As we spend our last few weeks for a while here with family and friends please join us in praying for a good transition. Particularly that:

-We get the all clear from the MRI scan on the 6th August and stuff in my brain is better than it ever has been ;-)

-Protection over our health, especially baby Grace who is teething at the moment and has never yet been to Cambodia (on the outside). That she conditions to the heat well and is safe and well. That Steve would get his voice back, at the moment he can only speak quietly..

-Our families, that our last few weeks with them are really rich and blessed and pray for lots of Grace for them as they say good bye for-now to little Grace.

-Ability to adapt well to extra challenges in Cambodia of having a new little gorgeous family member around and for our protection and safety..

-For our wonderful team on the ground in Cambodia they are facing a lot of challenges at the moment. Pray for protection and God’s continued favour over them and all that He is doing over there.

Our last update was about how times were very testing before the breakthrough. It seemed like we were waiting for an age to see progress in certain areas while not seeing much fruit in some others. Since then we have both learnt so much about perseverance and tenacity and also about God’s faithfulness. When He brings the breakthrough He really does break through! This last few months are a perfect example of how God can with His wonderful timing, work things together perfectly in just the right way.

At the end of December we again had the privilege of hosting a Harvest School Outreach team from Iris in Mozambique. The team were full of fresh graduates and leaders from the school of missions over there in the midst of revival and it was such a wonderful time of blessings, pouring out but also being poured into. We did outreaches to the bars and slums and street kids and had a wonderful time seeing Jesus’ love poured out on the Khmer people and receiving a bit for ourselves too!

Bar Ministry

One of my favourite moments was slum outreach. They got to meet the wonderful people from the slum community we had been living in and working in. The team split off into groups with some focusing on kids’ ministry, some focussing on prayer ministry and others just sitting and chatting with the locals. One of the outreach team members and myself (Steve) got chatting to one of my neighbours who was an alcoholic often spending the family’s money or not going to work because he was too drunk. One time while we were living there he even tried to commit suicide by jumping into the stinky sewage river, twice, because he was so fed up with life. We got talking to him and I learnt that just before we came to visit he had had another argument with his wife where she got angry with him for constantly letting her down. We got to just sit with him and love on him and let him know how valued he was and that there was hope. I sensed Holy Spirit was moving and opening his heart to receive. He seemed struck by our kindness and care for him and our constant input into his family over the last few months. After a really good chat and an opportunity to bless him he admitted he wanted to receive Jesus into his heart and accept Him as his Lord and Saviour. It was an incredibly touching moment and we could feel God’s presence as we were praying for him. Afterwards I asked him how he felt and he said he had joy in his heart. His wife has since noticed a difference in his behaviour. This was a big breakthrough for us as we had known him for over 6 months and seen his constant destructive habits and the horrible effect it was having on his wife and kids.

The slum community are very close to our hearts and along with this man there are many other brand new believers who have received Jesus but desperately need to be discipled with the word of God in Khmer. Our language skills only came to a point and we were limited by just how much we could teach them. For months I had been grappling with a number of ideas of how to go about this but each time I prayed about it God would say "not yet". It didn’t make sense to me and I was close to moving in my own wisdom and coming up with my own solution to the issue! The time was drawing near for us to go away for a few months and we didn’t want to just leave them without continued input and discipleship. Then one morning just over a month before we were to leave for the UK, God spoke to me just after I woke up and said now is the time for you to put something into place. That day I set up a meeting with a friend who I felt God had put on my heart to talk with him about having someone come and disciple the new believers and teach them more about the bible. He has been pastoring a church he planted in the area for over 11 years and has a great heart for the locals and for the poor. During the meeting he told me he had that slum area on his heart and wanted to go and check it out with me.

After I took him into the slum for the first time to meet the new believers when they met him they instantly liked him. When we left the slum he was really deeply touched by the people He met and the impact Jesus was having there and he said he wanted to "shout for joy". He explained how they as a church had been praying for this particular slum for years but before then they hadn't had the chance or the opportunity to have ongoing ministry there. They seemed so excited to now have this opportunity to do bible studies with the small group of believers and help disciple them with us.
Image description
Later on during his first bible study with the new believers he went over the theme of salvation and trust in Jesus Christ, to make sure they got it. While he was doing this there were many onlookers in the slum listening to his message and intrigued by the new faces and the small gathering of listeners sat before them. During that time four of these onlookers who before weren’t believers also made the decision to accept the gift of salvation in Jesus! The pastor's team are also holding separate meetings in the slum each Sunday morning to have a kids’ church because so many of the little children are so enthusiastic about church.

It was such a relief in my heart to know God was in control and that He was watching over his precious ones providing just the right people to come in at just the right time. It was also a relief knowing we wouldn't be leaving for the UK without them having continued, consistent input. God is so incredibly good and knows what he is doing!

Over Christmas we got the opportunity to minister in the local prison which is one of the largest in the country and one of the wonderful girls our team donated money so we could give a bag of gifts to all 390 prisoners. It was an incredible time in which some really powerful testimonies from different members of our team were shared and at the end I got to share a really clear gospel message on becoming a part of the family of God. Many of the prisoners put their hands up to join the family and not only received a gift bag for Christmas but also a new life in Christ! It was such a touching and powerful time and many of the prisoners were deeply touched.

One of my highlights was seeing an old Buddhist man who had his body covered with demonic tattoos ask for prayer. After the message we prayed for him and he was so touched by the presence of God that he came back up to the front at the end to receive more prayer so he could feel Jesus’ wonderful presence again. He seemed so hungry! It was wonderful to see Jesus pour out His lavish, merciful and perfect love on people who the world had disowned and written off.
In the New Year we made final preparations for our trip away to the UK. On our way back in Thailand we were blessed to be able to join in with the first ever Iris Asia leaders retreat, meeting fellow missionaries with Iris from all over Asia. It was a really powerful and impacting time really filling us back up ready for our time back in the UK.
Image description
We have been back in the UK since mid-January and are feeling pretty settled and we are so excited to soon meet our precious daughter who is due around the 20th February. It’s been a real rich time of connecting back with family and friends and making final preparations for the precious new life that will soon be coming into the world. We cannot wait!

I have been blessed to be able to find lots of work as a supply teacher pretty much straight away and have been to a number of different schools already meeting lots of wonderful young people! There have also been many opportunities to share about Cambodia and a number of other things during my continued time in the class room.

As we look back even through all of the transition, the waiting and the breakthrough, Jesus is perfectly in control. It’s Him we trust in and Him who makes things happen and in His perfect timing. We are so grateful that we get to be a part of this journey and are very excited tor all that is ahead. Thank you so much for your ongoing prayers and support.

Lots of love, Steve and Mollie (and baby bump)

Please pray for;

-Mollie’s health and our daughter’s health as they near the very end of the pregnancy (now 39 weeks). A safe delivery and quick labour with no complications for baby or mother. That we would transition well to being parents and love our child well!

-Team Iris Sihanoukville have now opened the dream centre and many kids have started coming! Pray they will be powerfully impacted by God’s love, set free and given a strong hope and a future. Pray for our fellow Iris team members, protection over them they are on the front line and need continued protection and provision.

-New believers and the bible study in the slum. Wisdom for pastor who is faithfully serving in the Kingdom and that there would be even greater hunger in that area to hear God’s word and that they would continue to be discipled in a very discerning, wise and loving way.

-Protection over our health and continued focus on that which God wants us to focus on during our time in the UK. We hope and plan to return to Cambodia in mid-May!
Thank you so much!

Sunset View from the Dream Centre

These last few months have definitely been one of the hardest and most beautiful seasons of my life. It is hard to articulate what has been happening but I (Mollie) will give it a go;
“Be on guard , stand firm in the faith. Be courageous , be strong and do everything with love”
This verse has been so very powerful to me during these last few months as many things have seemed such a struggle and uphill battle.
I have never felt under such spiritual attack from every direction and have often felt extremely weak, vulnerable and absolutely dependent on God to make it through. I am learning this is a good place to be despite it being painful and hard. On many occasions I have wanted to give up and go home and go back to that which I think is “comfortable and safe”. But I am realising that in these situations it gives us a precious opportunity to really stand firm and trust in the promises of God. Having faith to believe for things when you see no sign of them coming to fruition isn’t easy but it’s something as believers we all need to learn. It is so clear in the Bible that having faith in a difficult place is so precious to God.
“Three things last forever ; faith, hope and love ….and the greatest of these is love”
The hardest time was over a period of about 2 weeks where Satan tried everything to get me back on a plane to the UK. I was pulled off my motorbike by thieves whilst driving at speed (thanks to everyone who prayed for me), I felt terrified to go out of the house, our landlord then wanted to sell our house, Key staff members left, there was a landslide in our centre knocking a huge wall down, physically I felt exhausted and hot due to pregnancy and various people who I have been ministering to were not doing too well. Satan also made me feel isolated, alone, useless and the usual things he lies to us about. I also felt like a bad mother by coming to Cambodia whilst pregnant and many people made it clear they thought it was irresponsible. In addition many of our team were experiencing really weird dreams and generally struggling to rest. During this time it seemed like it was such a struggle to connect with God ; the reality however is that God never leaves us or forsakes us and I know Jesus is always with me giving me such strength and sustaining us with love.
Then thank God that after waiting months and months to be able to open our children’s centre we finally got breakthrough! After a long season of prayer, worship, declarations and patience we managed to get incredible favour from the government and have been granted permission to open. This is really incredible as this is a time where the government are closing many NGO’s and not renewing their permission to operate. We have been given miraculous favour in order for this to happen. In addition to this God has blessed us with 3 new incredible Cambodian staff members who we have also been praying in for months; who were interviewed the same day the government official decided to come! Such a glorious day of breakthrough and progress!
“So my dear brothers and sisters be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord. For you know nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless”
Image description
It was during this difficult season that God sent us the most amazing help and encouragement which not only kept us going but imparted such wisdom, love and enthusiasm for this next season also.

We were so honoured to have a team from Jackson Mississippi join us for a few days. We had 5 amazing women come and they each taught us so much and reminded us of why we were here and how we have no reason to be afraid! They are from one of the most dangerous, deprived, hostile places in America and deal with so much brokenness, gun-crime and violence. They are doing amazing things to bring love to a place and a people that has been abandoned and rejected by most (their ministry is called We Will Go). It was a privilege going to the slums, the bars and our centre with them. They burned with such a passion for the people of Cambodia is made me realise sometimes I am too narrow-visioned in my desire to love and bring help to people. The streets are full of people who need love ; the struggling parents, the street children , the sex- tourists , the ex-pats, fellow missionaries , fellow team members. It’s been so good to remind myself that God calls us to love everyone ; everyone is lost without him and everyone needs love and encouragement and family! Sometimes we can get so caught up in programs and what we need to do and to achieve that we can forget to love the people who God puts in front of us. We can get busy with other things that we don’t listen to His voice and actually be willing and brave enough to give people words of life and truth.
“ Let love be your highest goal”
Image description
It was also really good for these bold women to impart boldness and fearlessness; I felt like a weight had lifted and the reality of God’s goodness and his faithfulness and love destroys all fear and anxiety! It was inspiring to see them fearlessly approach people and share the gospel and not be held back by fear of man or anything; it gave me such a hunger to be able to do that same and walk in the confidence of my true identity as a daughter of God.
Even in the testing times God is always lavish in providing everything we need. Whether it is supernatural peace resting upon me after a motorbike accident or Him sending an incredible team out from the other side the world to us to come and encourage and strengthen us to keep going. He is such a faithful caring Father and He is so worthy of it all!
Thank you so much for your continued prayers, encouragement and support. All of which are so precious and valuable to us. We love and appreciate you all greatly.

Lots of Love Mollie and Steve

Prayer Requests

>God has been making it clear we are to start a regular bar ministry which makes my heart so happy as I have been waiting such a long time to start this in Sihanoukville ! Please be praying that God gives us creative ideas on setting up business and discipleship for them. We can’t expect the women to leave sex work unless they have alternative employment ; I have been experimenting with jewellery and candle making but feel so out of my depth – it would be amazing if God could send the right people with the perfect skills to help set up really amazing businesses making beautiful products. We also need God to provide finances to start something small which I would hope could become a profitable business. Also God made it clear to me he would bring out the first girl from the bars who would be raised us as a leader to develop this ministry – please pray it becomes so clear who she is and that nothing would get in the way of the call on her life.

>Please be praying for our slum community by the port ; we adore them and we still are very much part of the family there with them. We are hoping to start up a regular discipleship training for the adults in the slum. We are leaving in January for 4 months to have our baby so we want to get this started and established before we leave. We are so excited to see the believers in the slum go to the next level of a deeper understanding and relationship with God

>Please be praying for our Dream Centre! This is now official and can be opened ; please pray for wisdom and discernment as we start having children and also doing more outreach into their neighbourhood the Blue Mountain Slum.

>Please pray for our pregnancy ; that this sweet baby girl remains healthy and well and there is no reason we will have to leave early to go back to the UK. She is such a gift from God and we are so excited to meet her but really please pray with us for Gods perfect timing in when she arrives

>Please be praying for our new wonderful staff members that they feel part of the family and quickly feel very comfortable and happy with our team.

>Please pray for the Harvest school team who are visiting very soon.

God has continued to be the lavish loving, faithful and caring King who we have been coming to know over these last few years. Looking back on the last few months which have flown by we have been incredibly blessed and also received some miraculous and exciting answers to prayers!

Straight after our time in the slums I had the privilege of going to Phuket to join a retreat for regional leaders hosted by Mattheus Van Der Steen and GMF Burma. It was a wonderful time where I got to meet some really inspirational spiritual giants and leaders from all over the region. I felt so blessed to be able to join in with them and learn about God’s vision for the whole SE Asia region, it stirred up such an excitement for what is to come over here.
Image description
We then had a time of having numerous different visitors to Iris Sihanoukville including my parents, our country directors, some wonderful teams and lots of individual visitors. Each of these visitors brought something really special and were a huge blessing to the whole team (including having mum bringing lots of chocolate for Mollie). One treat was being able to celebrate my birthday with my parents for the first time in years. It was such a gift to have them around and have them meet all the people over here who are so dear to us including our Cambodian family.
Image description
We were blessed to be able to host an incredible team from New Earth Tribe Church in Byron Bay, Australia and were all absolutely blown away by their kindness, generosity love for us and willingness to invest in us as a team. A lot of our team received some really powerful prayer ministry and encouragement during this time. We also got to do a bunch of outreaches together and see God move powerfully touching the lives of people we were meeting bringing, healing freedom and joy.

We have continued to regularly visit our Cambodian family in the slums often eating with them and spending time together building relationships with them and doing life with them.
They continue to teach us more about life over here and constantly overwhelm us with their loving and welcoming hearts towards us. They also continue to have their own challenges including issues with land lords and family problems. Please pray for them as we together seek God’s wisdom in how to bring resolution and bless and encourage the growth of their faith.

A slum sunset

Every year we get to host teams of Harvest School graduates from the Iris Global base in Mozambique. They always come out filled up and full of faith from completing a Mission School in the midst of an incredible revival in Mozambique. This team were no different and were an incredibly exciting, loving and fun blessing from heaven.

We got to have lots of different times of ministry along-side them but one of my favourites was an evening we had last week. I felt when planning the schedule for the team’s time here that we should have an evening to be able to pour into and encourage other ministries in the Sihanoukville area so we had a night where we invited all of the local Missionaries and church leaders we know. It was an incredible time. During the ministry time Holy Spirit showed up in a powerful way. Lives were getting touched and God was speaking very clearly to His body through the prophetic.
Image description
One couple were both seasoned Cambodian church leaders who came in discouraged and oppressed, the husband was also deaf in one ear. During the time of ministry Jesus healed his ear and then the team members proceeded to prophecy to him and encourage him in the Holy Spirit speaking into his newly healed ear. Afterwards they looked like completely different people and were again carrying joy and hope as they walked. That evening we heard that they had encountered that much opposition and that much trouble after years and years of difficult ministry that they were just about to give up and throw in the towel but after that evening they have renewed hope and focus and faith to carry on. Most of them said they had never been to anything like this before and that they wanted to do it again! God is such an awesome God and during that evening really showed me in a powerful way how much He loves His body!
Image description
This brings me on to our last visitor who I want to talk about who is actually more of a permanent visitor. One of the incredible and lavish answers to prayer in this season that God has gifted us is a child. We are delighted to announce that Mollie is pregnant and we have a gorgeous little addition to the family who will be joining us around February 2015! We hopefully plan to go to the UK for a few months to be around family during this exciting time. We are both so delighted and excited and cannot wait to meet him/her already!
Image description
About a month and a half ago we were in the slums and had already taken the decision not to tell anyone there about the baby until we were at least 12 weeks, so no one in the whole community knew about it. At that time one of the beautiful little girls came up to Mollie and hugged her and gave her a cute drawing. She said “this is for your baby”, Mollie then answered saying “what makes you think I have a baby?” The little girl then answered “because God told me”. Last week when we broke the news to our family in the slum they were all so excited and full of joy! All the men kept hugging me and laughing and seemed genuinely excited saying “well done!!” And our Khmer family are all over the moon. Mollie spoke to the little girl and encouraged her and said “see you were right, you can hear from God!”, she replied “of course” with the tone of her voice as if it was a no-brainer as if there was no possibility to not hear from him. It’s amazing to see even the little ones as they continue to grow in God and we ourselves learn from their beautiful childlike faith.
Image description
As I look back on the last few months there are so many areas I can write about where Jesus has been faithful, trustworthy and always there. As we continue to walk this journey His love overwhelms us and continues to give us the faith we need to keep trusting, keep relying on and keep following this joyful King. It’s not a burden it’s an honour and a privilege. He is so worth following.

Thank you for all of your encouragement and love as we continue to do so and thank you for your continued prayers.

Lots of Love,

Steve and Mollie (and bump) x x x

..........................................................................................................................................................
Please pray for:

-The health of Mollie and our child. Heaven's protection and God's Holy Angels to surround them and keep them safe especially now the big news is announced to many.
-Wisdom and heavenly discernment for Steve as he is currently leading Iris Cambodia on his own while the other team leaders are away.
-Other team leaders who are currently out of the country getting filled up and ministered to.
-Breakthrough with International NGO application for IC.
-Blessing on the wonderful Iris Team members in Cambodia, a lot of them are carrying a lot of promises and are very close to breakthrough in receiving these!
-Wisdom as we continue to love our family in the slums.
-Heavens blueprints to be released on earth. HIS Kingdom would come HIS will would be done in our lives as it is in Heaven.

Love you all!

I must be totally honest and tell you that when Steve told me God had asked us to live in a slum for a month and give away a lot of our valuables I initially felt overwhelmed, scared and a bit angry. We had just left so many loved-ones in Phnom Penh and were trying to settle into Sihanoukville ; a totally alien place to me. I honestly felt heart-broken leaving the home I loved in Phnom Penh and all the people I felt I was abandoning.  It was such a refining time of reminding myself that God has everything in his hands and his timings are perfect and I could truly trust Him. So on top of all these grieving emotions and feeling so unsettled I felt this was the final thing God was taking from my hands. I didn’t realise at that time but it was the best thing I could have ever hoped for.
Image description
Steve and I didn’t know which slum to live in so decided to drive to them all and pray and seek God on which one to live in. After visiting a few slums the realities of what we were doing started to hit me. We had been to nearly all the slums and the sun was setting and I was feeling discouraged but then we both felt to go to one last one;  a dangerous slum and where many illegal activities go on including trafficking. As we drove through this huge slum I felt so excited ; I knew this was going to be our new home !

So the next few days we prayed and decided to go see if we could find a place. Before we went in we were reminded of a number of dreams and prophecies about railway tracks. Steve also saw a picture of a plant pot as we were praying. So we started where the train tracks are and started walking until we saw a place with lots of plant pots (unusual in the slum). Steve sat down and got a drink and started chatting to the people there and me some Khmer friends were drawn to a young boy who was crying. It turned out this boy was in such pain, as he had fallen while climbing and a rusty sheet of metal had sliced a huge chunk of his leg out. He was taking antibiotics but was sobbing in pain and had a fever. I knew it was serious ; and if we didn’t do something it could be life-threatening. After chatting to his mum and explaining the seriousness of the situation we were soon on our way to the best hospital in town. The doctor explained if this had been left another few days he would have lost his leg! After a few hours of IV antibiotics and minor surgery we headed home ; but as the leg was so serious we had to take him back to the hospital every day for further antibiotics and dressings. Whilst at the hospital I formed a very close bond with his mum Srey* who was so sweet.  When we arrived back in the slum his grandparents greeted us and expressed their gratitude. We asked them if they knew of anywhere we could stay and they said they would find out for us.  On our way to the hospital God told had me that this boy would open up a doorway for us into this slum; so we were both excited!
Image description
The next day when we brought  Prou* back from the hospital, his grandad asked us to move in with them. He said he wouldn’t feel happy if we stayed anywhere else, as it isn’t safe and they could protect us. Both him and his wife insisted we move into their home; and he said we could live there for free as we had helped Prou* so much. He then said, with tears in his eyes,  that fate had brought us to their family and now we were part of it ! I just knew in that moment that this would be a very special relationship. So the next day we moved into the best room of their house; with a mattress and even electricity.  The only difficulty was that there was no bathroom/ toilet ! The whole community did share a raised rusty corregated iron structure which had a hole in the bottom and you could use if you were desperate – but at night time it was unsafe as you had to cross over the train tracks to use it. So Steve and I felt we would pay to build the family their own toilet and washroom ;  partly because I couldn’t imagine no toilet for a whole month ! Also I didn’t really like having a bucket shower outside the house whilst the whole village stared at me ha ha!
Image description
I will never forget that first night ; something I had been dreading , but it was such a joy ! Surrounded by the most adorable children, all of who wanted to play games and to have lots of hugs and by our new family who were the sweetest and most sincere people. From day one we were told we had a new Cambodian mum and dad and so they really were just like parents ; everynight telling us we needed to have showers and go to bed ! Also it was great because we had 8 new brothers and sisters and countless nieces and nephews including sweet Prou*.

It wasn’t easy to always eat everything put in front of us, but Gods grace was over everything and I could stomach much more than I normally could. We also managed to use the make-shift and frankly scary toilet until the new one was built; as I watched the rats and cockroaches crawling around under me. At night time we got soo hot and the sound of rats crawling around us and the smell of their urine was a bit unnerving, plus the shouting of the drunken men outside and the extremely loud tv’s next door. But we got used to it; it wasn’t that bad! God was protecting us and giving us the strength.
Image description
From dawn till dusk we both had children hanging off us; craving love and attention. I could see that many of these children received no affection from their parents and even when they cried no one would comfort them. So it was a joy to be able to show these kids that they were so precious, important and loved. We often told them about who they were and slowly we started to see changes in them. It was also amazing to spend a lot of time just sitting and chatting to the mommas and all our family. Our mum and dad had heart-breaking stories about how they lost two children and many siblings during the nightmare Khmer-Rouge genocide. We got to sit and listen and pray for them and the more we found out about their lives the more love and respect I had for these precious, hard-working and generous people. Our parents would always say they have a small house and wallet but they have big hearts; which was absolutely true!
Image description
It wasn’t long before we had the whole village wondering why we were there and who we were. We always told them the truth; that Jesus had told us to live there for one month and that we wanted to learn from them and to bless them. Soon Sunday came and God told Steve to invite one person to church and that Jesus would do the rest, in the end 16 people (mainly kids) came with us the first night. Our friend’s van was packed with people from our village; it was so exciting ! It was the best feeling in the world to have such enthusiasm in going to church! It was a fantastic evening and by the end many of the kids had told me they wanted to go every week. It was really interesting as when we got home our Cambodian dad told the whole family that they should go to church as it is “good for your brain”! Everyday the children asked me; can we go to church again today? It made me so excited to see their hunger for more of God .
Image description
A few days later I became really sick and had a fever and chills and felt really dizzy. I knew this was more than just a cold as I literally couldn’t get out of bed. So I began to pray and worship God and he gave me a picture of the kids gathered around me praying. So I asked Steve to get the children to pray for me. They did pray for me; even though they didn’t understand . I wasn’t healed straight away but I had a renewed strength to get out of bed. Steve and I then drove around for about 20 minutes just worshiping at the top of our lungs and praying for the area. I came home totally better. The kids couldn’t believe it; as they had seen how ill I was before and had felt the fever on my skin. Since then they now know that Jesus wants to heal all sickness and disease. It really awesome to see how these children see things; it teaches me so much!
"Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?" James 2:5
Image description
Each day God opened up more opportunities for us to share our testimony and about Him. Our mum and dad listening to their new audio-bible every night and thanks to the church most of the adults who were going to church had their own bible. By the second week two packed van loads were going to church and by the end of the third week forty four people joined us to church. At the end of the service four adults , including our Khmer granddad and two of his children, gave their lives to Jesus. Six children also decided to follow Jesus a few days before that at a separate eve.

I was now realising what is truly valuable in this life .... it’s not what I thought before. I would spend forever in the slums if I could see hope and new life spring up in places of darkness , if I could watch Jesus turn lives around and bring his love to lives where so much hurt and poverty has dominated. By living with the poor I had learnt so much! I had witnessed true generosity, true self-less love as our parents would give us the best of their hard-earned food , their best room in the house. Despite communication barriers and also cultural differences our new family never criticised us or shouted at us but were always patient and kind and accepted us for who we were, even if we did seem very strange. I also saw the heart-breaking side of poverty and broken families and the deep darkness so many people live in. One night one of my sister’s husbands threw himself into the sewage lake near the house as he wanted to die. He was dragged out and all his children were crying and screaming and he eventually regained consciousness ; only to throw himself back in again. Every night we could hear the sounds of intoxicated men hitting or screaming at their wives and children. Countless times we heard parents speak curses over these kids; it wasn’t easy ! But amongst the garbage and the rats and the smell and the heat each of these people , each of the kids were like sparking diamonds ; loved by their heavenly father , each with an incredible destiny and purpose. They taught me so much about love and I am forever grateful for them.
Image description
Now we are in love with this family and the whole community. It was extremely painful to move out of their home. However I do know that God finishes what he starts and we both truly believe great things for this slum. One night I got a picture of God started a small flame which would grow into a roaring fire; I know He is bringing revival here and I am so thankful that we can be a part of it in some way. God in his goodness and kindness gave me a new family in a place I had felt so alien to. In addition to that He has given us an amazing team, who have been an amazing family also and have been there to help equip us to love this community; whether thats been helping with de-licing of the kids, or being able to have the odd shower at their house, our team has been such a support to us and we couldn’t have done any of this without them.  God made us dependent on them too; which has really helped us love and appreciate them so much.
Image description
We don’t know what happens from here but we do know that Jesus has a plan.... we really feel He wants us to live close to this slum and use our home in a way which can be a blessing to them. Whatever God’s plan looks like I have learnt that He is good and He is trustworthy! He doesn’t ask us to do things which are bad for us; but always which will help us grow and which will teach us so much. I also realise that as much as I love these people, God loves them so much more and is desperate to see them living in freedom and walking in their identity as his children; healed and restored!
Image description
Looking back I laugh and think that I was ever worried about what God has asked us to do ; He handpicked us the kindest family in the whole slum and set us up to inherit them as our dear Khmer family who bring us such joy everyday we visit, and we still continue to visit them every day.

My biggest lesson; sometimes it’s so so good to do things we are incapable of doing without Him! Everyday having to rely fully on Jesus to just survive the day is a great place to be; it reminds us that through Him all things are possible.

Thank you so so much for your continued prayers and loving support, we love you all deeply. Some other really exciting things have also started to develop during our time here in Sihanoukville. We will keep you posted! God is more glorious and incredible that we could ever imagine, to Him be all the glory.

Lots and lots of love,
Mollie and Steve x x x

The close of 2013 was incredible. It was my busiest but also my favourite time in Cambodia so far. We had so much on, but Jesus showed himself strong and wonderful as He always does.

I (Steve) received a prophecy from a women of God who was visiting back in August which said “I see a time ahead coming, it is going to be like in Holland where the land is lower than the sea level and there are walls to stop the sea from coming in. There is a gap in the wall and you are going to step in and help stop the sea from coming in...” As I was reading this in the lead up to the crusade it struck me that it was talking about December and the gospel campaign in Siem Reap. The main visiting and organising team (TRIN) are a ministry based in HOLLAND! Things had changed on the ground in Siem Reap and a few organisers of the crusade and outreaches had pulled out, so they asked me and our team to step in and help out with organising things.

By God’s grace and with the help of our wonderful team we managed to make it happen. God’s favour was clearly on this as we managed to get exactly the people we needed to fill in the gaps. A lot of them travelled up from Phnom Penh with us (including the whole Khmer worship team and main translator) and they managed to get time off work at the last minute (and had enough favour with their bosses for it to not count against their holidays). Many other things like this eventually came together to enable the event to go ahead.

During the time the teams were here we had many outreaches in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap to villages, slums and even to a floating village!

The main crusade lasted three nights and each night the Holy Spirit seemed to be focusing on a different theme. The main speaker Mattheus Van Der Steen (from TRIN) was very sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leadings. The first night the theme was about repentance and salvation. It was a real privilege to see an anointed man of God get on the stage and preach a powerful Gospel message, he held absolutely nothing back in clearly and passionately telling people about Jesus; later he told us that he preached as though it was the last message he would ever preach! During the response time many people came up to the front to receive Jesus for the first time.
Image description
The theme the second night seemed to be more about healing and deliverance with dozens of people coming up to the front after the message to respond and receive healing. This was an intense time with some people in the crowd manifesting demons and receiving prayers for deliverance. Even though this was the smallest crowd of the three nights Jesus was still powerfully at work, bringing freedom to many people in a town that has many oppressed by the darkness.

In the end it was the last night that was my favourite. To be honest before the evening session began I had come to the end of myself. The weight of organising and leading the teams, going to outreaches in the days, communicating to crusade organisers and resolving issues and planning things had worn me out. I didn’t crash but I had ran out of fuel! The months before this point had been intense and with it all coming to an end I had spent everything I had. With the spiritual battle on top of this and having to constantly be on my toes I was exhausted. Even though my body was aching and sore, my energy had been spent and I was spiritually exhausted I knew I had nothing else to give. I had done all I could so I just began to join in with the worship! I worshipped and worshipped then I began to be supernaturally re-filled with energy. I fixed my thoughts on Jesus and my emotional attention on Him until my thoughts went from negative to positive and I forgot about my tiredness in my flesh. Completely relying on and being empowered by the Spirit I had my favourite night so far.

Mattheus preached a message on the Holy Spirit and many came up to the front to receive Jesus’ living water. At first we were waiting for God to move and for a while nothing seemed to happen. We seemed to be waiting for a long time but then the Holy Spirit started touching people and people started hitting the floor. It was great to see the Cambodian people I love so much receiving the incredible gift from the Father, the inheritance that Jesus had earned for them. We then as a ministry team started to minister and more and more people started hitting the floor as we prayed. I had never experienced this before when I had prayed for people. I prayed for the people who God led me to and they kept receiving a powerful touch from God. It ended up that the whole open section in front of the stage looked like a huge pile of bodies sprawled everywhere.

It was so wonderful to see so many people receive from God. It was so incredibly needed. Siem Reap is such a dry and barren place and Father God brought a spring of living water to refresh, bless and empower the believers and the new believers who had been coming the few nights before.

My joy was summed up when I got back to the Hotel a few hours later. I was chatting to some of the Holland TRIN team. I saw one of our hotel’s Khmer staff walk past me with a huge grin and a spring in his step. I could tell just by looking at him that there was something about him, he was carrying joy and had a completely different countenance compared to the other hotel staff I had seen. I didn’t recognise him but I asked him if he had been at the crusade at all. He replied with a big grin on his face that he had. I asked Him if he had been this evening and he replied that he had and that he too had “sleeped” (I think he meant he too had been slain in the Spirit). He seemed so happy! It was such a joy and a delight to see God move and touch so many Khmer people.

As I look back I am so thankful to God to be a part of something so special and work along-side such incredible and inspiring men and women of God.

Rest
I finished December the most exhausted I had been in Cambodia so far. We were both physically and emotionally drained so our break over January has been an incredible well timed blessing.

We have been so incredibly and lavishly blessed by God. We got to stay in Sydney with my brother and his girlfriend in time for New Years Eve and then we were blessed to join Mollie’s parents on their trip to New Zealand. They generously paid for flights, accommodation and transport we just got to go along for the ride. It was over this time with the fresh air and the beautiful scenery that we were refreshed and refuelled ready for the year ahead.

It is going to be a great year. As I was stood watching the fireworks welcoming the New Year at the stroke of midnight the Holy Spirit spoke to me and told me that this is going to be an incredible year. Such an excitement arose in my heart.

For the next few months ahead; we are moving to a new city in the south of Cambodia, we have new missionaries joining our team, our teams will potentially have two new Iris centres and are going to be ministering to new groups of people as we move into new territory. God is doing so much more in this beautiful nation, there is so much more to come!

Thank you so much for your continued prayers, love and encouragement! They really do make a huge difference.

With love Steve and Mollie.

I (Mollie) feel so unbelievably privileged and blessed to be living in these very special days in this amazing nation. God is proving his goodness and faithfulness every day and bringing us abundant joy in places of despair and darkness.

Firstly, it’s been a joy to welcome our first Khmer staff members! Getting to know them more has been such a delight and a privilege. I knew God was going to give us the best but our staff are just incredible!  The more I get to know them the more they blow me away by their compassion, love, their faith in God , their sweet Spirits and their humble hearts. We are very excited as are planning to take them to Singapore early next year for a conference with Heidi, Bill Johnson and Randy Clarke to experience more of God in a corporate setting. This is exciting too as will be the first time on an airplane for some of our staff which will be fun!

This month also brought with it the very exciting XP “Operation Justice” school. Staffing this school was an incredible experience and such a privilege. There is something so refreshing being around amazing Christians from around the world with passions for the poor, exploited and oppressed. It was amazing to meet and make lifelong friendships with such amazing, strong, gifted, generous and loving people. They each released something so beautiful and unique to the team and I learnt so much for these amazing guys and felt so blessed, inspired and refreshed by them.

We saw many salvations (around 50) in all kinds of places ; street corners, temples, hospitals, slums, KTV bars and nightclubs. We saw many healings and many times where God really used the students to speak truth and destiny into people’s lives.

One of my favourite stories from the school was when a group of us went down to Watt Phnom late one evening ( a temple which is renowned for being a very dark red-light area). Someone in our group felt to take a bottle of water with them even though they weren’t thirsty. God then gave someone the word “running waters” before the outreach. Initially I was wracking my brains for any water-features or streams etc but there is literally nothing in that area. We walked about the red-light area and then started talking to one of the ladies who told us her tragic story; she had previously worked at collecting recyclables by sorting through peoples rubbish but someone stole her cart. Because of this and the pressing need to feed her children, she had no other choice but to work here and sell herself. She then started to cry as she spoke of an incident a few weeks ago where she was gang-raped by a group of men who took advantage of her kind and trusting-heart. She was telling us how she felt incredibly down and contemplated suicide. As she was crying along with some of our team, God reminded someone on the team of the word “running waters”. We knew we found the person God wanted us to meet that night!  She then explained she was hungry as hadn’t eaten in 3 days. So after getting her some food and chatting to her more we told her about Jesus and his great love for her and plan for her life. The transformation in her was incredible as she prayed with us to accept Jesus and then one lady on our team really felt to baptise her there and then. At first it seemed a bit awkward to baptise her with a bottle of the water in the middle of a red-light district on a very dark and gloomy night; but soon it became an incredibly beautiful and divine moment  where this women encountered the love of her father.  All I can describe is at that moment the presence of God was so strong and we were all getting overwhelmed by it ; I could barely stand.  As my team mate was covering her in the water the lady’s eyes were full of tears. Her friend who was watching all this then asked if we could pray for her to receive Jesus too. They both were completely different women by the time we left. We have referred her to the amazing YWAM team who work there every week.  That night was such a divine appointment, and it was great to watch God touch these women with a love which heals all pains, hurts and brings hope to the hopeless.
Image description
This was just one of many amazing testimonies of that week. For me another huge highlight was when the team set up a free Spa in a slum known for being a place where many sex-workers live. It was such a joy to pamper and love these precious ladies.  Before we went to the slum God showed one of the team that he was going to open up ears in the slum. At the end of the pampering God showed us a mute lady who was also deaf and so we prayed for her and after continuous prayer we did see some improvement as she was able to make different sounds and her hearing also improved ; however the full healing didn’t manifest. Initially I felt a little discouraged as we were really expectant for complete healing , but then God really spoke to me about trusting him and that he always finishes what he starts. I am believing that this lady will receive total healing and will be one of the first in her village to spread the gospel.

I mentioned in my last blog about starting English lessons and really having no idea what I was doing. A manager from one of the lady bars invited us to start teaching English there and after prayer I felt it was a strategy from God . So I prayed and asked God to help me as I am not gifted at teaching or even knew where to start. He then answered my prayer in the most amazing way and sent me someone who is very special as is extremely gifted and passionate about teaching English and has lots of experience! So the past few months it’s been amazing going to the bar and teaching English to these girls. It’s been so much fun and we have had many laughs together ; eating skittles , singing rainbow songs , praying together and learning more about each-other. These girls who are very poor always offer their food to us after class and always present us with drinks and really honour us. The other day one of the girls came to the clinic I work at nearby and she was with us nearly 2 hours as we prayed for her and shared the gospel. It was really encouraging to see her open up and trust us and see a glimpse of what God is doing already in this bar. I know he has great plans for these girls!  God has really revealed his faithfulness to me through this.

Another example of this is when working at the clinic for Daughters of Cambodia. Often I feel so frustrated with myself as can’t really communicate how I would like to and often feel medically out of my depth too. One girl came in after having a miscarriage and was crying; I went to give her a big hug and just let her cry; all the while feeling so inadequate in how to comfort this girl. But then the following week she came back and told me how much that meant to her and how no one had ever hugged her before. I was so sad to hear that this precious women had never experienced a hug; it made me so angry. But it also made me realise that God can use us to share his love with people even when we feel completely useless and don’t have the words.

This month is my last full month of working in the organisations I am partnering with in Phnom Penh. Eventually after some time away in January we intend to move South to Sihanoukville to follow God's call at the beginning of March. I have loved working with Hard Places Community and Daughters of Cambodia and I will be very sad to leave this amazing city and the many people I love here. God is so good in helping me hand over things well, and I have been able to train up a doctor at HPC to continue the clinics there which has been awesome. I am excited what this next year brings and the transition to come.

We are currently preparing for both a Harvest School team coming and also a TRIN Global team coming in December and very excited about the gospel crusade that we will be helping TRIN with in Siem Reap. It’s going to be such fun! Please continue to pray for us in this busy time ahead. We would also appreciate your prayer in this time of transition; that we would finish things in PP well. Many thanks for all your prayers and support ; we couldn’t be here without you all. Much love from us both.
